Electro Therapy
Ultrasound, interferential current
Ultrasound is device that uses electricity to produce a sound wave and molecular vibration. Although we cannot feel ultrasound when applied, we can see the sound wave when put in water. The purpose of ultrasound is to accelerate the rate of tissue repair and optimize healing. It is used to treat traumatic conditions, joint contracture, muscle spasm, and inflammatory conditions such as bursitis and tendonitis.
IFC (Interferential Current) is an electrical modality used to decrease pain, swelling and muscular tension. It uses a medium frequency current causing a muscle pump action to reduce swelling and the electrical impulse causes a release of natural endorphins to reduce pain.
Muscle Stimulation is used primarily to retrain muscles that have atrophied due to injury. The muscle stimulator is used to recruit the motor nerve of a particular muscle and with appropriate exercise, that muscle will be become stronger. It is also used to reduce muscle spasm and reduce pain.
Laser is mainly used to heal wounds and reduce scar tissue formation. Laser is most effective with superficial tissue injuries.
