Nabil Tarazi, BScPT

Nabil is co-owner and co-founder of the Aquatic Centre Physiotherapy. He completed his Physiotherapy degree at McGill University in 1991. He has over 25 years of experience in private practice treating a variety of orthopaedic  and sports injuries.

 

Nabil’s treatment philosophy will always incorporate postural re-education, education on injury prevention, manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation.

 

Nabil has a special interest in exercise prescription, gym programs and is dedicated to home care treatments on the North Shore from Deep Cove to Lions Bay.

Denise Morbey, BScPT, FCAMT, CGIMS

Denise is the co-owner of Aquatic Centre Physiotherapy. She brings over 25 years of clinical experience to her practice specializing in both manual and manipulative therapy as well as developing extensive expertise in the area of sacroiliac and musculoskeletal dysfunction. Along with her strong manual therapy skill, Denise also utilizes the treatment of IMS (intramuscular stimulation) to address neuropathic pain and pain due to shortened muscles. IMS is a modern form of acupuncture that was developed at the Gunn Institute in Vancouver and is currently taught at UBC. Denise utilizes the principle of pilates to enhance the active rehabilitation programs individually designed for her clients.

 

In addition to Denise’s clinical experience, she also uses the principles of Pilates to reduce compression on vertebral joints, strengthen the core and improve overall muscular balance. Her extensive sport physiotherapy experiences earned her the position of Deputy Venue Medical Supervisor for the Figure Skating venue at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She has also worked as a team therapist for local and national teams including the position as a physiotherapist for the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships, 2008 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, and 2009 ISU Grand Prix.

 

As an avid triathlete (Ironman 2003), Denise has developed a sub-specialty working with triathletes and runners including treatment of acute and chronic injuries as well as injury prevention. Both clinical and personal experience has helped Denise to develop her skills to assess running biomechanical errors, improving speed and reducing injuries utilizing video analysis. Denise is a yearly lecturer with the Sun Run-In-Training programs.

Chrys Gonidakis, BScPT

Chrys Gonidakis is co-owner and co-founder of the Aquatic Centre Physiotherapy. She graduated from McGill University in 1991. She initially worked at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the Royal Victoria Hospital until she moved to Vancouver in 1993 and has been working in private practice since.

 

Chrys has 25 years of experience in Orthopaedic and Sports injuries rehabilitation, and has treated patients of all ages.

 

Chrys’ treatment approach incorporates manual therapy, patient education and exercise prescription. Chrys provides Physiotherapy treatments in home setting upon request within the entire North Shore.

Jacqui Steinberg, BScPT, CAFCI

Jacqui is an experienced physiotherapist with over 35 years of expertise in orthopedics and sports injuries. She obtained her qualification from the University of Cape Town in 1986 and completed the Canadian Qualification process in 1990. With a deep understanding of human movement and pain management, Jacqui’s passion lies in helping her patients achieve long-term pain relief, increased strength, and injury prevention.

 

In 2007, Jacqui expanded her skill set by qualifying in Acupuncture through AFCI, further enhancing her ability to provide holistic care to her patients. She is also among a select group of therapists in the Lower Mainland who are trained in Redcord, a unique system developed in Norway that utilizes ropes and bungees to identify and restore compensatory movement patterns.

 

Over the past six years, Jacqui has focused on working with stoma care nurses and patients in the Lower Mainland, specializing in core stability and strength for hernia prevention. She incorporates exercises and posture correction techniques from her extensive postgraduate training in Pilates and yoga, tailored specifically for physiotherapists.

 

During her time in South Africa, Jacqui had the privilege of studying and working under the guidance of a renowned sports medicine physician. Building on this experience, she served as a trainer for a first league rugby team and contributed to medical teams for various summer and winter games. Passionate about sharing her knowledge, Jacqui delivers talks to running groups. As an avid runner herself, she has even completed the prestigious Boston Marathon. She is considered a specialist in the treatment and prevention of running injuries through her association with “The Running Clinic” and offers personalized running gait analysis and specialized training programs to enhance her clients’ running performance.

 

With Jacqui’s wealth of experience, commitment to ongoing education, and dedication to her patients’ well-being, she continues to make a significant impact in the field of physiotherapy, helping individuals overcome pain, improve movement, and achieve their physical goals.

Bahareh Ghanbari is a British Columbia Registered Physiotherapist. She received her doctorate degree in Physiotherapy (Rehabilitation Sciences) from the University of British Columbia focused on chronic pain. She has a Baccalaureate and Masters degree in Physiotherapy and is specialized in the treatment of chronic pain, muscular and orthopedic injuries.

Bahareh’s clinical experience includes manual therapy theqniques: joint mobilization/manipulation,  soft tissue release, IMS/dry needling, postural re-education, injury prevention, and exercise rehabilitation for various conditions such as back and neck strains, knee and shoulder injuries, joint replacement and sport injuries.

Bahareh practices Chan Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (CGIMS), a technique for treating pain in the absence of tissue damage or inflammation. IMS is useful for headaches, whiplash, backache, tennis elbow and frozen shoulder.  Bahareh is certified in Anatomical Acupuncture for musculoskeletal pain with Acupuncture Foundation Canada. She has been also practicing Schroth therapy for Scoliosis for over 10 years. The Schroth Method is a non-surgical treatment technique for scoliosis at all ages, regardless of the severity of scoliosis. It uses exercises customized for each patient to return the curved spine to a more natural position through de-rotating, elongating and stabilizing the spine in a three-dimensional plane.

Bahareh is certified R2P Concussion Management therapist, and helps patients with whiplash or post-concussion symptoms. Bahareh is specialized in Vestibular Rehabilitation and she treats conditions such as vertigo, balance deficits, vestibular migraine, and other vestibular conditions; she is a member of Vestibular Association (VEDA) (https://vestibular.org).

Bahareh has pursued her interest in Women’s Health and Pelvic Health physiotherapy: this includes rehabilitation to address incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain. For women who are pregnant, and new Mothers, she is trained in the management of Diastasis of Rectus Abdominis (DRA) and chronic pelvic girdle pain.

Bahareh’s research focus and experience mainly involves the study of chronic pain, muscle dysfunction using Near Infrared Spectroscopy, MRI and muscle strength testing, physical activity monitoring, and quality of life in people with chronic musculoskeletal and cardiopulmonary conditions. She has acted as a teacher’s assistant in clinical skills and research methodology courses, and a clinical examiner within the Department of Physiotherapy at UBC-Master of Physiotherapy program. Outside of work, Bahareh enjoys Yoga, cycling, hiking and swimming.

Maryam Amani, BScPT

Maryam has more than 10 years of experience in physical therapy at public and private physiotherapy facilities. She completed her physiotherapy degree at  Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran. She is experienced in the assessment and treatment of patients with various musculoskeletal dysfunction, post surgeries rehabilitation and sports-related injuries. She uses education of injury prevention ,manual therapy, hands-on techniques ,postural education and exercises prescription. 

She is a member of the College of Physical Therapist of British Columbia (CPTBC) and Canadian Association of Physiotherapy (CAP).

Andre Mascarenhas, BScPT

Registered Physiotherapist 

 

Andre has more than 9 years of experience as a Physiotherapist working in the Middle East and in India. He is particularly interested in the treatment of sports and musculoskeletal injuries. He has extensive experience in the rehabilitation of athletes with soccer injuries, having worked as an on-field Physiotherapist for soccer clubs in Dubai. He has also given several health talks on the importance of Posture and Ergonomics at various MNC companies.

Andre has attained his certification in Advanced International Aqua Therapy techniques from South Africa and has experience with treatment of various musculoskeletal and neurological conditions with water-based therapy. Gold medalist at University level, and attended several workshops in the field of Physiotherapy.

Andre believes in exercise therapy and patient education as the corner stone of any treatment program and enjoys interacting with patients of different age groups while guiding them through their recovery. Outside of work, Andre loves playing sports especially soccer, volleyball, padel tennis and cycling.

Isabel Aganon BScPT

We are pleased to introduce Isabel, our newest team member! She will be joining us as a locum physiotherapist until April 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and a commitment to providing exceptional care to our patients.

Isabel is a graduate of the University of Toronto, with over a decade of experience as a dedicated physiotherapist. With a commitment to providing exceptional care, she has honed her expertise through specialized training in Pelvic Health, Vestibular Rehabilitation, Chronic Pain Management, Pilates, Acupuncture, and Arthritis Care.

Notably, Isabel played an essential role in shaping the Advanced Practice Physiotherapy role within the Hip and Knee Surgical Assessment Program at Vancouver Coastal Health. Additionally, she collaborated closely with orthopaedic surgeons at the University Health Network in Toronto, contributing her expertise to triages in upper and lower extremity programs and spine clinics.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Isabel is deeply engaged in personal growth and wellness pursuits. She has delved into the study of mindfulness meditation and finds rejuvenation through her passion for hiking and dedicated practice of Ashtanga yoga.
